About us

About the club and its history.

Eskilstuna Flying Club has Sweden's best conditions for gliding. The club was founded in 1938 and today, almost 90 years later, has an active fleet located at Ekeby Airfield in the heart of Södermanland.

Ekeby Airfield is surrounded by very open airspace, where we have towing every day without any other traffic the whole summer. The club has a good fleet of aircraft, a clubhouse and active members.

In addition, EFK has qualified ARC examiners, aircraft technicians and maintenance facilities for its own and visiting aircraft.

Ekeby Airfield

Ekeby flygfält has a long and important history for Eskilstuna and Swedish aviation.

Already in 1937 The Airfield had a partly military status. In November 1939 Ekeby got a military commander and became formally an airforce base.

When Denmark was occupied by Germany in the spring of 1940 all flight training was affected. The military flight scool at Ljunbyhed was forced to close. During April 9-10 all aorcraft were swiftly moved to Ekeby.

Eskilstuna Aeroclub was founded in 1938 and we have being flying at Ekeby since then.
